Spidey: In A Rush Valentines Day (silent) Fan Comic by Anthony Andujar Jr

I made this short comic while being in Jury Duty a few days before Valentines Day. I proceeded to color it and now, here it is in color! Evocative of the core 60's vibes of the original Ditko and Romita Spider-Man stories. Happy Valentines Day!

Fan Comic Spider-Man In a Rush (B&W) by Anthony Andujar Jr

Welp, thanks to the panel templates that the comic notebook has, I was able to just come up with a short comic. I figured for practice, fun, sharing and for portfolio purposes, that I would come up with a Short based on my time serving in Jury Duty (completed) last week. I figured it would be a nice silent comic exercise. One of my cowriters @lord__sanchez always bugs me to use inks, which I only use when I know it's the final stage , and not something to be scrapped. I plan to digitally color it and maybe add dialogue... Livicole Cosplay ended up being my reference for Mary Jane. It was unintentional but came out nice hahaha. Anywho, gonna have some original content for y'all while i work on the graphic novel etc. Stay tuned.

Knight Spider short comic by Anthony Andujar Jr

I think this hashtag is a great way to honor #steveditko and #stanlee. #spidermanintothespiderverse #spiderverse lived up to the philosophy that #anyonecanwearthemask that those two came up with when they created #spiderman . I'm glad that @aspen_art and @xx_crimsonx_xx brought this to my attention and got me inspired to create my own self portrait of myself if I was a Spider-Man. A great way to encourage artists of all levels to put their skills to the test.

So I made an OC based on myself and I dubbed him Knight Spider.  Wears a tactical suit where the mask a retractable nanite helmet, and is a mix between super Sentai, Batman and Robin.  The character would be wearing tactical Kevlar gear (similar to Captain America). The suit is a mix between Captain America's stealth suit, Ben Reilly's suit and a bit of secret war and the classic Spidey armor (silver). I'm all about practicality, so this  Possibly my favorite suit for a character that I made. Also, fun fact, the spider is in the shape of an A which represents my name.

When I wrote out the entire script, I realized that my character had no ties to Spider-Man in any way, and only relied on nano tech from the highly advanced tech that was passed down from. No spider powers, and no actual characters from Marvel. The only name in relation to spider-man is only the "spider" part of the name. This gave me free reign to play around and craft a short story that is in its own universe and world. Much like how Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was inspired by Fist of the Northstar, i kinda approached things in the same way. Anywho, you can see for yourself. This was very fun.

Well, I hope you guys enjoyed this short comic! I worked on it throughout the entirety of January (scripting, thumbnailing, illustrating and coloring) and started lettering the pages between January to mid February. This was a fun mini project for myself, and I may continue to add more stories focused on these characters possibly. I still have the Graphic Novel and other projects that I've been working on. I'll keep you all updated in between all of the classes and day job stuff. See ya around!

Comic Book Reviews 1/30/19 by Anthony Andujar Jr

Man, @ssnyder1835 and @jamesthefourth  dropped a friggin bombshell that set the stage for not just the Justice League, but each of the JL / DC titles involved for rest of this year!! You can read my whole review about it, but what I can confirm is this: all the build up that lead to this annual issue was so worth it! If you're gonna pick up something that feels important to the landscape to the DCU, I feel this is the book. Also,

I did a review Batman Beyond issue 28 which is one of my favorite issues this week, and The Flash issue 63. I didn't know that annual 2 of The Flash was also coming out today until i saw  @scottkolins post two days ago. All I can say is that it is worth checking out!!!!!! These were my fave books of this week, let me know what you think and what was your fave titles for this week !

Natasha Aughey as Wonder Woman by Anthony Andujar Jr

I should probably do more muse sketches right? Did the digital coloring using Autodesk on my phone. Here's the physical sketch. I've been preoccupied with classes and some comics that I've been lettering.
I once told @natashaughey_ that I always utilized her as my muse and point of reference for my interpretation of Wonder Woman. So here is my interpretation so far. What I always liked this fitness model/athlete is that she is able to be both powerful, while still retaining her femininity. And that was always how I imagined wonder woman. Wonder woman to me is an Amazon. And I never imagined amazonians to be just model types. They went to war, trained and built their land by hand. So I always figured that it made sense that Wonder Woman would be at top form in physique, while maintaining a presence that was able to be Feminine and powerful all at once. So she could arm bar you, and still talk about the beauties of life and philosophy, and still look good without trying to. That's how I imagined Wonder Woman as a character. Aside from She Hulk. And I think this muse nails that down to a T.

My Journey Short Comic By Ant Andujar Jr 2018

During the duration of 2018, I was going through some stuff, and whenever I had something i wanted to express, I illustrated it into my personal sketchbook. I knew that whenever I was illustrating a sketch in my sketchbook, It was something that felt like it belonged to an anthology of some kind because I kept drawing things that were cyberpunk esque. In between animating, scraping pages for other comics that I was working on with collaborators, and then joining the interpreting program at laguardia community college after obtaining my associates in Fine Arts, I felt ...lost. at times I felt lost, impatient, angry, frustrated, etc. But I always went back to that sketchbook.

I remember hesitating to draw in this particular sketchbook for a couple of reasons that I won't] disclose. But my friend Stephanie.J. blessed with me with a sketchbook that became a great device to visual regurgitate ideas that inspired various concepts that I could turn stories out of. WIth that I realized that I could create anything that comes to mind, and that's when it lead to this short comic. Artists, most especially illustrators are magicians/ wizards/ sorcerers. Creating something out of thin air, creating something out of nothing, making a space where something on a two dimensional page will feel more three dimensional and more real than any conversation and voice that they hear on a daily basis.

So I went with that, exploring the various worlds that inhabit the mind of an illustrator such as myself. While I was working on this personal projects Stan Lee passed away. I grew up on a lot of his stuff, reading his X-men,Fantastic Four and most definitely his stuff on Amazing Spider-man with Steve Ditko. I remember that pushed me to go to my sketch book, to take those personal pages and turn it into a comic. After I finished taking one of my finals for intro to field interpreting. I scanned the selected pages  and started  digitally coloring these pages... I Went for a Bill Sinkevich and David Mack approach when I was drawing this stuff loosely and then i would draw heavily detailed stuff to contrast with it all.

There are various things I'd like to bring to life, but find difficult due to finding other illustrators that have the same enthusiasm, or being bogged down by the natural pace at which human beings draw hahaha. I don't know if this will help people through depression, It definitely won't cure cancer, and most likely won't change the situations that occurs in ones life. But I at least hope that It can inspire action. i hope it inspires my fellow artists to take action to create what they want to create regardless of what they are told. SO i hope this helps you in your journey as it is helping me as I enter 2019. Also, I'd like to wish a birthday shout out to the homie Johnathan Acosta, Happy Birthday man! Dope! You share the same B-Day as Stan lee. I Also want to thank @obey_thelaw /@unbothered_thoughts for being one of my reference models for the muse section of the short comic. Ya'll should check out her writing and poetry. Anywho, See ya soon folks!

that I forgot to add that this project was inspired by. I love work from Grant Morrison (especially his multiverse DC Comics stuff) and Warren Ellis (I'm a fan of Planetary). Read this article about how the human brain is able to see 11 dimensions and create multiverses. Artists and writers do it all the time. During a conversation with my Language in Use Professor (for the ASL interpreting program) Christine Monikowski there was a moment where we talked about the evolution of language, and it eventually lead to a brief conversation about Displacement in language. The concept of Displacement (being able to talk about what ifs, hypotheticals of things that have not, could, or will not ever happen in time) especially in language.  Especially when theorized is that its always possible that any one person can conjure up a sentence that has never been uttered before just makes this short for me all the more enjoyable to have made and will continue to make. Anywho, enjoy!
